CONNECTED is a small private Speech and Language Therapy practice that I set up along my NHS job after several years of practising Speech and Language Therapy in the NHS and private sector. I could always see gaps in the service provision offered in places where I worked and wanted to make a positive impact by offering more choices to those who need our help. And here I am!
At the moment I work at a specialist level as a Speech and Language Therapist with adults of all ages. I provide specialist assessment, treatment and management of complex communication, swallowing and voice disorders in adults. The therapy I offer is tailored around person-centred goals and evidence-based. I am as passionate about supporting young adults with social communication issues, as I am about providing therapy to maintain communication skills for those affected by dementia. I am a local member of Dementia Action Alliance (DAA) and I'm proudly supporting LGBT community affected by Dementia. I volunteer in St George's Hospital to support people affected by Young Onset Dementia. I am experienced in providing therapy to rehabilitated speech or language skills affected by neurological conditions such as stroke.
My other special interest is in the management of clinical voice disorders using traditional voice therapy but also laryngeal massage (MLMT) to reduce muscle tension. I am also LSVT trained and provide Lee Silverman Voice Treatment to improve vocal loudness and speech clarity.
You can also contact me if you need: - a second opinion - communication skills training for staff or family - communication group therapy in nursing homes - teletherapy
Little bit more about me...
Maja Janicova Speech and Language Therapist
I am based in South London, where I moved after qualifying as a Speech and Language Therapist (MSc) in 2011 from University of Limerick in Ireland. Prior to that, I studied Health Psychology (BSc Hons) at University of Bedfordshire in the UK and English Language and Literature at University of Presov (MSc) in Slovakia, my home country. As a teenager I participated in a year-long exchange student program in the USA and completed my junior (third year) of high school there - you can only imagine the kind of accent I ended up with :) I'm multilingual and can provide therapy in Slovak or Czech languages as well.
The science behind human interaction and communication has always fascinated me and doing what I love, by practising Speech and Language therapy, has brought me closer to my ultimate goal - to help others!
